The ISBT Water Treatment Planner is a high-level planning resource designed to provide a quick and reliable way to gauge ingredient water treatment needs. While it is a valuable resource, it is not intended to serve as the ultimate solution and should be used only as a preliminary guide to the potential treatment train of unit processes.
The tool operates based on inputting local source water quality and contaminants information, and current or proposed ingredient water quality targets. It serves to provide the user with an initial glance whether their current process is capable of producing their beverage product safely, consistently, meeting all ingredient water requirements or greenfield project scopes. The tool includes parameters aligned with global regulations, state-of-the-art treatment options, and an interactive treatment sequence planning feature. Its primary purpose is to help users design water treatment systems with sufficient redundancy and to introduce multiple barriers of separation between raw water and ingredient water used in beverage production.
The tool does not account for seasonal variations in water quality or changes in treatment needs, nor is it designed for spring or mineral water. Local regulatory requirements, as well as brand owner and bottler standards, must be addressed separately and are beyond the scope of this tool.
Halogen removal and pH adjustment are not barriers, therefore are outside of the scope of this project.
All categories have been capped at a ceiling that is realistic for beverage production. If no result is produced, this means the category level is considered unrealistic or technology to support it does not yet exist.
Users must seek independent professional advice from a qualified water subject matter expert, appropriate consultants and/or water treatment services/equipment provider for further design, developments, risk assessments, investments, and business-related decisions.
